generally speaking, if an artist draws a character - whether an OC or fan art of an existing one - it’s just kinda rude to say “haha this other character that has nothing to do with this tho!” and nothing else (because let’s face it, most people who do that shit don’t offer any other commentary).

I didn’t say they were offensive, i said they were annoying. I'm not contesting it, I just want to understand so I don't offend anyone else by mistake Sorry if its a stupid question, but why were the sans comments offensive? i thought it was a harmless comparison. I’ll come back later” and then when you come back later it’s halfway into a completely different conversation that started 8 hours ago while you were sleeping. It’s a constant and neverending sensation of walking into the middle of a conversation that starts 8 hours ago while you were asleep and going “I have no idea what people are talking about. Forums had a culture of open, public sharing that Discord just cannot replicate.Īlso Discord is horrible for fandom interaction. That’s also a major hurdle for people who want to find a fandom specific space- how would you know this discord exists? How could you check out its vibe without already committing to joining it, maybe even going through a process to prove you read the community guidelines? You can’t just browse a discord, decide it isn’t your vibe, and leave without a trace. Not to mention the rich troubleshooting knowledge locked up behind impassible digital walls. So many trade techniques and skills are archived in old forums in danger of disappearing- trade skills shared on discord ARE effectively disappeared for anyone who is not a member, because they cannot be found without knowing exactly where to look ahead of time. That’s a major loss for the passing down of knowledge to new community members. That means you can’t find a discord or access its contents through a regular search engine- information shared in discord is inaccessible to the rest of the internet. You need an invitation link, from someone already in the discord- you can’t even view without being invited.

The problem with discord as a fandom space: It’s too private.

I rly do hate how everythign moved to discord i miss forums.
